being a good teammate
The Sun Devil organization stresses the value of being a good teammate on and off the field. Youth sports come with a lot of pressure and a lot of responsibility. There is pressure to perform to meet individual and team development objectives and as an organization that is comprised of many teams and families there is a responsibility to each other both on and off the field. Living up to that responsibility is becoming harder and harder with social media and chat apps. In many cases the players are interacting off the field more than on it.

Why is being a good teammate so important? We will break it down simply:
-
This sport is about playing with confidence.
-
A team will not be competitive if its players are not playing with confidence.
-
EVERY player will struggle with their confidence at some point in a season.
-
Being a good teammate is ALWAYS about helping teammates be more confident so that the team can be better.
-
When a player is contributing to a teammate's lack of confidence they are failing their teammate, the team and themselves.
-
What you say and how you say it matters.
It's simple - be positive, encouraging, and empathetic to your teammates and it will return back to you. If your player is struggling with being a good teammate, our coaches and administrators will address it. The player will be held out of play until they understand how to be a better teammate.

BULLYING
When being a bad teammate extends to bullying, we will have zero tolerance. Bullying is defined as, “seeking to harm, intimidate, or coerce someone perceived as vulnerable.” If our coaches or administrators see or find any instances of bullying a teammate on the field, in the dugout or online the player will be immediately dismissed from the team and a pro-rated amount will be refunded to the family.
As a parent you can help. Please sit down with your player and discuss the importance of always being a good teammate!
